Free Rides in Paradise: Sanur Launches Electric Shuttle Service in Bali

Sanur is preparing to become one of Asia’s leading medical tourism destinations, attracting tens of thousands of tourists annually. However, the resort’s growing popularity is inevitably leading to increased traffic congestion. To address this issue, Bali authorities are launching a new shuttle bus service in the Sanur area.
Sanur has long been known as one of Bali’s most popular resorts. Its port serves as the main gateway to remote islands such as Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan, Nusa Lembongan, as well as the Gili Islands and Lombok. The new transport project aims to make getting around easier for both tourists and locals.
The shuttle service will be operated by electric buses, making it not only convenient but also eco-friendly. In the first phase, twenty electric buses will run at 10-minute intervals.
The free electric bus service is expected to be a great solution for everyone. Tourists will be able to move easily and safely around the resort area, avoiding long walks in the heat. Locals will also benefit from the new transport option, especially since the public Trans Metro Dewata bus service was discontinued due to a lack of funding.
Denpasar Mayor Jaya Negara expressed hope that the new shuttle will not only help solve transportation issues but also become a key part of the future public transport network.
The first route will run from Mertasari to Segara Ayu. In the second phase, the route is planned to extend to the Sanur Port. The project aims not only to reduce traffic jams but also to care for the environment through the use of electric buses.
Sanur is known for its walkable sidewalks and pedestrian paths. From Mertasari Beach to Sanur Port, there is a promenade along the coastline popular with tourists for morning jogs and family walks. However, in areas with heavy traffic, walking is less comfortable — hence the development of the shuttle project.
