Bali Airport Goes Digital with New Cashless Payment Kit

Bank Indonesia is launching the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack — a simple 'all-in-one' kit for those arriving in Bali. Buy it right at the airport — and you're ready for a cashless life. It includes a prepaid SIM card, an e-money card, and instructions on how to activate QRIS to pay by phone.

The kit also includes a mini-guide to Bali with QR codes. Scan them to get recommendations on places to visit, sights to see, restaurants to try, and must-try Indonesian dishes. It also includes contacts for a centralized tourist information center: they help with inquiries and suggest itineraries.
Bank Indonesia emphasizes that Bali, as a global resort, should be a showcase for digital payments. Rapid integration benefits everyone: visitors, businesses, and banks alike. Moreover, cashless transactions reduce the risk of encountering fraudsters.
“Convenient transactions are an important part of the tourist experience in Bali,” says Filianingsih Hendarta, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. She states that the goal is for every guest to be able to call a taxi, buy internet access, pay for coffee, and start exploring the island as soon as they step off the plane.
Facts support the trend. In the last five years, the country's payment system has accelerated sharply: more than 58 million people and 41 million outlets already use QRIS. The turnover is 1.9 quadrillion rupiahs, approximately 120 billion US dollars. Mass coverage is key, as QR codes are found everywhere: from chain supermarkets to small beachside warungs.
The economic picture in Bali also looks promising. According to Bank Indonesia, in the third quarter of 2025, the island's economy grew by 5.88% — placing it fourth in the country. Tourism remains the main engine: 64.29% of foreign exchange receipts from Bali enter the state budget thanks to the tourism sector. The simpler and more transparent the payment services are, the more guests spend in the legal sector, and the more stable the island's economy grows.
The takeaway for tourists is simple: arrive, grab the kit, activate it — and you're ready to pay anywhere with QRIS. Fewer hassles, more time to explore the island.
