With a work visa or a residence permit, you can open an account in almost any Indonesian bank. With a guest visa, this can also be done, but not everywhere. To open an account without kitas, a letter of recommendation from an Indonesian guarantor is required.

Bank BNI
- Processing Time: Account setup takes up to two weeks.
- Deposit for Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) Account: IDR 1,200,000 (with a non-reducible balance of IDR 150,000).
- Deposit for U.S. Dollar (USD) Account: IDR 2,000,000 (USD account, not a multi-currency account).
- Payment System: Mastercard.
- Non-Personalized Card: The card is not issued in your name.
- Card Linked to IDR Account: The card can only be linked to an IDR account. It cannot be linked to a USD account.
- Accepts SWIFT Transfers: You can receive SWIFT transfers.
- Mobile Application: The mobile application is in the Indonesian language.
- Online Spending Limit: Up to IDR 10,000,000 per day. ATM withdrawal limit is IDR 5,000,000 per day.
- Requires an Indonesian Sponsor: You need to have an Indonesian sponsor.
To open an account, you will need to visit the LegalIndonesia office, sign the necessary documents, and make the deposit in IDR in cash. Afterward, the documents will be sent to the bank, and when the account is ready, you will be invited to visit the bank branch. The account setup process typically takes up to three business days.
Bank Mega
- Processing Time: Approximately three business days.
- Deposit for Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) Account: IDR 3,000,000 (with a non-reducible balance of IDR 100,000).
- Deposit for U.S. Dollar (USD) Account: USD 250.
- Payment System: Visa.
- Non-Personalized Card: The card is not issued in your name.
- Card Linked to IDR Account: The card can only be linked to an IDR account. It cannot be linked to a USD account.

- Online Spending Limit: Up to IDR 250,000,000 per day (the highest available limit for online payments in a day).
To open an account, you will need to visit the LegalIndonesia office, sign the necessary documents, and meet with a bank representative at the agency's office. Afterward, the bank will invite you to visit the bank branch when the account is ready.
Bank Permata
- Processing Time: 5-7 business days.
- Deposit for Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) Account: IDR 250,000 (with a non-reducible balance of IDR 100,000).
- Deposit for Multi-Currency Account: IDR 1,000,000 (with a non-reducible balance of IDR 1,000,000).

- Processing Time: Approximately two weeks.

- Deposit for USD Account: $100.
- Card Type: Visa.
- Non-Personalized Card: The card is not issued in your name.
- Card Linked to Multi-Currency IDR Account: The card is linked to a multi-currency IDR account.
- Accepts SWIFT Transfers: You can receive SWIFT transfers.
- Has SWIFT Transfer Limitations: There are limitations on sending SWIFT transfers.
- Mobile Application in English: The mobile application is available in English.
- Online Spending Limit: Up to IDR 10,000,000 per day, and ATM withdrawals up to IDR 10,000,000 per day.
- Requires KITAS for Account Opening: A KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit Card) is required to open this account.
- Tax Number Required: You need to provide your tax number obtained in your home country.
To open the account, you will need to visit the LegalIndonesia office, sign the required documents, and make the deposit in IDR in cash. When the card is ready, the bank will send it to the office of their partner. Please note that the bank account is only available for individuals who have been in the country for more than 30 days.
Bank Maybank
- Processing Time: Approximately three working days.
- Deposit for Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) Account: IDR 1,000,000 (with a non-reducible balance of IDR 100,000).
- Deposit for USD Account: $250 (with a non-reducible balance of IDR 500,000).
- Payment System: Visa or Mastercard.
- Non-Personalized Card: The card is not issued in your name.
- Accepts SWIFT Transfers (for Mastercard Maksi cards): You can receive SWIFT transfers (for Mastercard Maksi cards).
- Allows Sending SWIFT Transfers (for Mastercard Maksi cards): You can send SWIFT transfers (for Mastercard Maksi cards).
- Card Linked to Multi-Currency IDR Account: The card is linked to a multi-currency IDR account.
- Mobile Application in Indonesian: The mobile application is available in the Indonesian language.
- Online Spending Limit: Up to IDR 30,000,000 per day, and ATM withdrawals up to IDR 10,000,000 per day.
To open the account, after filling out the application, the agent will send your details to the bank. The bank will then invite you to their branch. Please note that the card is only linked to an IDR account, and it is not issued in your name.
Cash withdrawal without a card
You can withdraw cash from ATMs without using a physical card by utilizing Mobile Cash, a feature offered by Permata Bank (similar processes apply to BCA and Mandiri). Here's how it works:
- From the main menu, select "Mobile Cash" > "PermataBank ATM."
- Enter your phone number in the format 08XX-XXXX-XXXX.
- Choose the amount of money you want to withdraw from the ATM.
- Review all the entered information and confirm.
- Approach a Permata Bank ATM.
- Press the "Mobile Cash" button on the ATM.
- Enter your phone number in the format 08XX-XXXX-XXXX.
- You will receive an SMS with a code on your phone. Enter this code into the ATM.
- Collect your money from the ATM.
Daily Withdrawal Limits:
- BCA: Maximum 10 million IDR (one transaction maximum of 1,200,000 IDR).
- Mandiri: Maximum 5 million IDR (one transaction maximum of 1,000,000 IDR).
- Permata: Maximum 1.5 million IDR.
