Bali Soul is one of the main learner spots in Nusa Dua for the wet season. It also goes by Cook Point or the Russian Spot, and on Windy it's marked as Little Moscow. A pretty, comfortable beach with great infrastructure: board and gear rental from Gusti, a local, plenty of cafés and easy parking. Getting in is straightforward, and you can also jump carefully off the rock straight onto the spot — plenty of people do.
The wave & conditions
Mainly a right-hand reef wave — you can work the left too, but the right is the main one. On a good swell it offers a long wall, but more often the wave is fast and closes out. It picks up less swell than neighbouring Mushroom Rock — the spot is shielded from the main swell by the peninsula. At mid to high tide the conditions are comfortable for learning. At low tide on a big swell only advanced surfers ride here. On a good swell there are barrels and long rides.
Conditions & tips
The spot is often overcrowded — a lot of surf schools operate here, and the lineup can get packed with students. Surf etiquette is barely observed, and collisions happen regularly. Gusti (the rental owner) is the authority at the spot, and it's best to give him waves. There are strong currents here — the lineup almost always drags you north. There's a channel that pulls you out to sea. Surfers have been swept far from shore and picked up by boat. Despite the crowd, the infrastructure is great: Gusti has softtops and hard boards for every taste, rental is 100k rupiah per session. Food and parking are all right there.
