The award ceremony took place on October 17, 2025, in Huzhou, China, and gathered leaders of the tourism industry from around the world. Pemuteran was included in the top villages for its successful tourism development, focusing on community involvement and environmental protection.
Along with Pemuteran, the village of Osing Kemiren in East Java also received the award for its participation in the program to enhance the quality of tourist villages. Both competed with 270 destinations from 65 countries, making their success particularly significant.
Indonesia's Minister of Tourism, Vidyanti Putri Wardhana, noted, “This result is inspiring and proves that Indonesia's tourist villages can develop sustainably, relying on natural and cultural potential, as well as support from local residents.”
The village is known for its marine flora and fauna, coral reef conservation projects, and active participation of local residents. Pemuteran (Gerokgak) is popular among divers and snorkelers, offering a harmonious combination of infrastructure, ecology, and culture.
This is not its first international recognition: from 2023 to 2025, Pemuteran met the ASEAN Tourism Standard in the Community-Based Tourism category, confirming its stable position among the best tourist villages in Southeast Asia.
