The village of Panglipuran in Bangli district has been granted the status of a 'Village of Cultural Development' by Indonesia's Ministry of Culture.

This recognition is due to its preservation of traditions based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy—an idea of harmony between humans, gods, nature, and society.
Panglipuran had already caught attention: in 2023, the village was named the world's best tourism village by UN Tourism. Now, a commemorative stele has been erected on its territory—a symbol of cultural significance and a reminder of the importance of heritage protection.
According to the Minister of Culture, Bambang Wibawarta, Panglipuran can serve as an example for other villages in the country. Bangli's Secretary of Administration, Dewa Bagus Riana Putra, called it a valuable asset that local authorities are ready to continue developing. In particular, the village is planned to be included in the CHANDI 2025 international conference program in Denpasar.
Panglipuran is located at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level, approximately five kilometers from Kintamani and 45 kilometers from Denpasar. It covers an area of about 112 hectares. The village is known for its cleanliness, traditional architecture, and unique norms for Indonesia: local awig-awig rules prohibit polygamy to protect women's rights.
