The sea evokes a special fear among the locals. According to legends, the most terrifying and evil spirits live in the sea. That is why the native Balinese would never think of going for a swim in the sea.
And a temple swallowed by the sea is the most dreadful and frightening place one can imagine. In reality, the temple was built by Australian Chris Brown in 2005 as part of an environmental protection project. Marine life immediately took the matter into its own hands, and the temple quickly became overgrown with corals and algae, becoming home to many fish and marine animals.
The temple is located in the coastal village of Pemuteran.
