Denpasar Named One of the World’s Top 100 Cities in 2025

Denpasar, the capital of Bali, has been included in the list of the 100 Best Cities in the World for 2025. Known for its historic districts and rich cultural landmarks, the city remains a vibrant hub of art and music events—often unnoticed by tourists staying just a few kilometers away.
The ranking is published annually by Euromonitor International, based on a detailed analysis of six key factors: economic performance, tourism development, infrastructure, tourism policies and appeal, health and safety, and sustainability.
In 2025, Paris (France) claimed the top spot, while Denpasar made its debut at an honorable 94th place. Though Bali’s capital still has a long way to go before reaching the top rankings, making it into the prestigious Top 100 list is an impressive achievement.
Euromonitor International highlighted why New York, Orlando, and Paris ranked highest in tourism appeal:
“These cities were the only ones to rank in the top 30 for both domestic and international demand. New York, for example, is focusing on attracting long-stay visitors who spend more, as 2024 tourism levels have returned to pre-pandemic figures.”
The report also revealed that Bangkok topped the global list for international arrivals in 2024, recording a staggering 32 million trips. The city had already surpassed pre-pandemic international tourism levels in 2023 and continued to see rapid growth, exceeding 30% in 2024.
Despite placing 94th overall, Denpasar outperformed cities like Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Santiago (Chile), Vilnius (Lithuania), Jerusalem (Israel), Zhuhai (China), and Cairo (Egypt).
For travelers seeking an authentic Bali experience, away from mass tourism, Denpasar offers a unique blend of ancient traditions and modern culture.
Must-Visit Places in Denpasar
Badung Market – One of the largest and oldest traditional markets in Bali, located in the heart of the city. A perfect spot for travelers wanting to immerse themselves in local city life. The market sits conveniently across from Pura Desa, one of Denpasar’s largest Hindu temples.
Kumbasari Market – Just a short walk from Badung Market, this market has been a local favorite since 1977 and is the best place to buy authentic Balinese souvenirs and handicrafts. Locals from all over Bali shop here for ceremonial offerings, traditional clothing, and home essentials.
Bajra Sandhi Monument – A historic landmark in the Lapangan Puputan Renon park, dedicated to Bali’s struggle for independence. Previously a hotspot for tourists visiting the Denpasar immigration office for visa extensions, the monument has become a quiet retreat now that visa processes have moved online.
With its rich history, cultural significance, and growing global recognition, Denpasar is proving to be one of the most underrated destinations in Bali—offering an authentic experience beyond the usual tourist hotspots.
