Denpasar - capital of Bali

Bajra Sandhi Monument in Denpasar
Attention! The airport in Bali is not located in Denpasar, but near the border of Kuta and South Kuta.
Denpasar is a densely populated (around 850 thousand people), noisy city. Expats living in Bali prefer not to go there unless absolutely necessary. However, even in Denpasar, you can find beautiful places and interesting attractions.
Mostly, people go there for shopping, as there are stores that are hard to find in other places.
Denpasar used to be the capital of the Badung Kingdom. But it was conquered by the Dutch during their invasion of Bali in 1906. The royal palace was destroyed and looted.
In Denpasar, you can find the government offices of Bali and the governor's office. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to travel from the airport to the city center, costing around 100,000 rupiahs. The traffic in the city is quite busy. You can also reach the city by bus from Kuta. The most convenient and fastest way to get around there is by a motorbike.
If you plan to visit temples, don't forget to bring a sarong, a special wrap.
Lapangan Puputan Badung is a large central city square located in the heart of Denpasar, featuring various thematic statues. You can find pictures there.
Museum Bali is situated nearby the park (here). You can learn more about Balinese culture at the museum.
