Bali province utility services have begun laying underground cables in Denpasar. In the first phase of this large-scale project, 10 streets will be involved. The removal of overhead wires is expected to help organize the chaotic provider networks that spoil the city's appearance. The Director of Perumda BPS Denpasar City, I Nyoman Putrawan, stated that the laying of underground provider cables in Denpasar has now entered its final stage.
The underground network installation will lead to the closure of some streets in Denpasar during the works, from Gajah Mada Street to Simpang Thamrin. Then from Veteran Street north to Nangka Selatan Street to the Gatsu-Nangka intersection. Work will also take place on Patimura Street to the T-junction at GOR Ngurah Rai. Also from Chatur Muka eastwards towards Surapati Street to the traffic light intersection.
Complaints about chaotic, sagging cables from the population have been received for many years. However, only in the past two years has the government seriously addressed the creation of an integrated system for laying communications underground.
The General Director of PT PLN UID Bali (the company responsible for electricity supply in Denpasar), Erick Rossi Prio Nugroho, hopes the government will help prepare sites for the construction of integrated engineering network facilities to ensure that the electrical cables do not intersect with either fiber-optic or telecommunication cables.
He acknowledged that relocating cables from poles underground requires quite significant costs and additional equipment. However, there are several advantages. An underground network is more reliable in bad weather than overhead cables. Given that interference is typically caused by television antennas, animals, birds, and billboards, 'If it is more reliable, then it is worth the money,' said Erick Rossi.
And what about tourist areas? The Badung Regency government will soon implement the 'Bright Badung Without Overhead Cables' program, aimed at improving the infrastructure quality of tourist zones.
