Bali Starts Building New Sections of Singaraja–Mengwi Shortcut

On January 7, 2026, the ceremony for starting the construction of sections 9 and 10 of the Singaraja-Mengwitani shortcut will take place in Bali. This is the next segment of the route designed to make the journey between the south (Denpasar and surroundings) and the north (Buleleng) faster and safer.

The decision was confirmed by Bali's governor Wayan Koster. According to him, the construction will be funded by the Indonesian state budget — over 700 billion rupiahs, and the land purchase was paid for by the provincial government from the local budget.
Works are taking place in the village of Gitgit — next to the old road and not far from Gitgit Waterfall. The site is already being prepared: machinery is clearing the ground for the future route.
A 3.9 km section and six bridges with a total length of about 942 meters will be built. Due to the bridges and complex terrain, the construction is expected to last around two years and be completed in 2027.
This section of the road will become smoother: there will be significantly fewer sharp serpentine turns. Authorities claim their number will reduce from 38 to 13, which should lower the risk of accidents and simplify travel along the mountain road.
