Building a new bypass road is expected to help resolve traffic issues in Canggu. The project was initiated by the Badung Regency government and is being implemented by Bali’s Public Works and Spatial Planning Office.
According to Commissioner Turmudi, a traffic management plan for the Canggu area has not yet been developed. He pointed out that the area is rapidly developing as a tourist destination, leading to an increase in vehicles.
Since 2022, there has been a plan to construct the West Gatot Subroto (in Denpasar)–Canggu bypass road. However, the road has yet to be built. Authorities have stated that this bypass is necessary because the existing roads in Canggu can no longer handle the volume of traffic.
What other measures does the Bali government propose to address traffic congestion in Canggu?
During a meeting between the Badung Transportation Agency and traffic police, various proposals were discussed to combat congestion in Canggu. These include upgrading and reconstructing roads, implementing one-way routes on certain roads, and creating a special team to tackle traffic jams.
Due to a lack of personnel, the police cannot consistently deploy officers to all areas. Therefore, a special mobile traffic management team will be established.
In the future, the government also plans to improve intersections by repairing those that are heavily congested.
Viriantara, head of the road department, added that bus and truck access to Canggu has already been restricted. For example, signs prohibiting buses from entering Canggu have been installed in the Seseh area.
Additionally, operating hours for trucks carrying construction materials have been limited. Heavy vehicles are only allowed on the roads after peak hours.
