A new 332-meter road has opened in Canggu. First,a Hindu purification ceremony took place,and then the official opening.
Construction of the road began in November 2023 and cost 6.2 billion rupees. The shortcut is intended to alleviate congestion from Denpasar towards Batu Bolong. As we mentioned earlier, the road Raya Canggu at the intersection was extended straight (when traveling from Kerobokan towards Tanah Lot), eliminating the need to turn right and then left to pass the intersection. At the same time, traffic will be made one-way.
The new shortcut will connect back to Raya Canggu at the stretch that connects to Jalan Bypass Tanah Lot. In the opposite direction (from Tanah Lot to Kerobokan), traffic will continue along the old route, also one-way.
The road and bridge construction coordinator in the Badung area, I Putu Teddy Putra, said that the asphalt was laid twice. First, a 6-centimeter layer was laid, and then, a day later, an additional outer layer of 4 centimeters.
Interestingly, along the new road, giant billboards have already been installed, which, according to the head of the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR),Suri Suamba,were installed without permission.
"We don't know who the owner is, and they didn't have permission to install them," he said.
Lately, there have been complaints that many tourists spend their entire vacation stuck in traffic from the airport to their hotel. Canggu really needs serious road relief, and it's good that the authorities are making visible efforts to address this issue.
