Canggu–Umalas Bypass Construction Begins

A new road is being built in North Kuta to connect Subak Sari and Batu Bolong with Umalas and Semer. It is intended to become an additional route for travel between Canggu, Berawa, Umalas and Petitenget.

Work is already under way on the section. Machinery has been brought onto the route from the Subak Sari side in Tibubeneng, where crews are compacting the ground and preparing the strip for the future road. The project runs through an empty plot in a commercial area near the Berawa coast and is expected to lead towards Umalas.
A separate work area has been opened on Umalas-Klecung Street. The asphalt is being reinforced and pavements are being built on both sides of the road. Work has already begun on a pedestrian section more than 700 metres long. It is later expected to connect with the new road from Subak Sari.
The work contract has been in effect since 12 May. The completion period is 210 calendar days. In Badung’s procurement system, the project is listed with a budget of almost IDR 76 billion.
This is not the only road project currently being advanced by the regency. Plans include a link between Berawa/Batu Bolong and Teuku Umar Barat, a road from Uluwatu to Melasti and the southern ring road, as well as a route from the Ayana area to Uluwatu and Pecatu.
The authorities are presenting some of these projects as an attempt to ease congestion in tourist areas, where traffic jams have become one of the main problems in recent years.
Until the work is completed, local congestion is possible around Subak Sari, Umalas and nearby streets due to machinery and road closures.
