The authorities in Badung are finalizing a high-speed water taxi project, which will transport passengers directly from Ngurah Rai Airport to Canggu.

Regent I Ketut Wayan Adi Arnawa emphasizes that roads alone are no longer sufficient, and the island needs maritime transport. The launch of the line is scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026; subsequently, routes are planned to extend to Uluwatu and Nusa Penida. For this, piers and supporting infrastructure will need to be built.
The sea route network in Bali is already expanding. The Denpasar — Banyuwangi catamaran reduces travel time to East Java to three hours, and the Benoa — Tanjung-Benoa line has cut the journey between the resorts from half an hour to 10–15 minutes. The GoBoat service performs over 300 trips a day, linking Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Penida, and Canggu.
Meanwhile, the authorities are accelerating the modernization of the road network. Parliament demands immediate funding for the Western Gatot Subroto road, underground junctions on Ahmadi-Yani and Tohpati–Akasia streets, as well as a flyover to divert traffic from the narrow streets of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, and Canggu. Before construction begins, engineers will study the most problematic areas — exits from Kerobokan, Canggu, Seseh, Legian, and the Uluwatu route to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park.
Even in the best-case scenario, the new roads will take years, so until then, the water taxi remains the fastest way to bypass Bali's traffic jams.
