Badung Regency is considering sites for two coastal piers: one at Sekeh Beach (Pantai Sekeh) in Tuban near the airport, and the other at Berawa Beach (Pantai Berawa) in Canggu.
A water taxi service is expected to run between them, as previously reported in the spring. The journey from the airport to Canggu is expected to take 30 minutes by water, compared with one to two hours by road.
The piers are intended to become part of an integrated transport system, allowing passengers to transfer from the water taxi to a tram or electric shuttle without leaving the transport hub. The project is still at the site-selection stage, with discussions involving the governor and the regent still to come.
The operator remains state-owned PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, which is preparing a detailed engineering design. The initial investment was estimated at 1.21 trillion rupiah, and construction was scheduled to run from August 2026 to July 2027. August has begun, but the pier sites have yet to be determined.
The coastal tram is a separate project. The regency plans to prepare land for it along the coast from the airport to Cemagi village beyond Canggu. The work is scheduled for 2027, with 980 billion rupiah allocated for land acquisition. Construction will be carried out by the central government through railway company KAI.
Both projects are designed to serve the same route: north from the airport towards Canggu and Seminyak, where the journey can take up to two hours during the high season. The plans also include replenishing sand and completing breakwaters along the coast, meaning construction will affect beaches from Kuta to Cemagi. For now, travel from the airport to Canggu remains by road, and a direct journey is available with a private transfer from MyBaliTrips.
The water taxi is planned to operate only between the airport and Canggu. The regency’s plans do not include piers for boats to Nusa Penida, Lembongan or the Gili Islands. Boats to the islands will continue to depart from Sanur, Padangbai and the terminal in Nusa Dua.
