The Bali Traffic Police Directorate has established a special task force to address traffic congestion in the islands busiest areas, with a primary focus on one of the most problematic zones – Canggu. This initiative was announced by Bali Police Chief General Daniel Adityajaya.
“We recognize that traffic congestion in Bali, especially in Canggu, has become a significant issue. Thats why we are forming a dedicated team under the Traffic Directorate to manage this situation and ensure a smoother experience for both residents and tourists, he stated.
This team will focus on traffic control and regulation to minimize severe gridlocks. In addition to Canggu, the unit will also operate in other high-traffic areas such as Seminyak and Sanur.
Traffic Police Director Kombes Turmudi explained that the team consists of six groups, each with two officers. They will be deployed during holidays, special events, or traffic incidents. The officers will work in two shifts morning to noon and night shifts.
Each team will consist of two to four police officers on motorbikes, who will be dispatched to traffic hotspots when congestion arises. Their movements will be coordinated from a central command center, which monitors traffic conditions through surveillance screens.
According to Turmudi, this task force will significantly reduce traffic density and help manage congestion, especially during major holiday seasons such as Christmas and New Years Eve. He also noted that a similar approach successfully alleviated heavy congestion on the Bali Mandara toll road in 2024.
The big question remains how will these teams reach the worst-affected areas when they’re already jammed with traffic? While its encouraging that police are acknowledging Canggus notorious traffic issue, doubts remain about whether traffic management alone can truly solve the problem. After all, roads arent getting any wider, and the number of vehicles in Canggu isnt decreasing.
However, with this plan now in motion, we’ll soon see how effective this strategy really is in practice.
