Bali authorities are continuing to look for ways to ease traffic in Canggu, but there are still no quick solutions. The regency’s transport agency is looking at options for changing traffic flows, but admits that the area has too many narrow streets, while alternative routes are already congested.

There were earlier plans to extend traffic trials to Berawa and Canggu after Kerobokan and Seminyak. In early June, the transport agency said it was still looking for a suitable scheme for Canggu. At the time, officials said the changes would not be introduced immediately: the authorities first wanted to launch a scheme in the Pecatu area, and only then return to Canggu.
This is where the main problem arose. One-way traffic or redirecting traffic flows is not so easy to apply here: almost all the roads in the area are similar in width and are already busy. If one section is closed or changed, the traffic jam may simply move to the next street.
Against this backdrop, the authorities are once again talking about a longer-term solution — a new bypass road from Canggu to Batu Bolong. Badung Regency has confirmed that this plan is currently being refined. Its aim is to create a new access route and reduce traffic density in one of the island’s busiest tourist areas.
No specific construction timeline or exact route has been announced yet. For now, the plan is still being prepared. The authorities describe Canggu as an area where the growth of tourism has had a strong economic impact, but has also created new pressure on roads and on the daily lives of local residents.
