From 1 June 2026, they plan to change traffic on the road to Uluwatu in the south of Bali. The changes concern a section in Ungasan and Pecatu — the route towards Uluwatu Temple, Bukit beaches, villas, restaurants and viewpoints.
Badung’s Transport Department has identified six problem spots: the Nirmala intersection in Ungasan in the southbound direction, Blimbing Street, Blimbing Sari, Toya Ning 1 and Toya Ning 2. A full map of the new scheme has not been published yet.
The authorities want to change how vehicles pass through the busiest junctions. At the moment, cars there often turn across oncoming or cross traffic, which quickly brings everything to a standstill. Under the new scheme, some traffic may be rerouted via nearby streets so drivers block each other less when turning.
The Toya Ning–Pecatu section was prioritised back in early May. At that time, Badung began analysing congestion in tourist areas: they counted vehicle flows, checked road widths and peak hours. After that, the route to Uluwatu was chosen as one of the first for the new scheme. This road is often overloaded, especially in the evenings, at weekends and during high season.
A similar scheme was tested earlier in Kerobokan Kelod and Seminyak. After the trial period, it was made permanent. If the changes in Pecatu work, a similar approach could also be introduced in Canggu.
