The Bali authorities continue to search for solutions to the island's transportation issues. By 2026, a new dock is planned to ensure sea communication between the international I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Canggu.

As confirmed by the government of Badung district, the port will be located between Canggu and the village of Cemagi. It is intended to help tourists reach popular areas like Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, and Cemagi more swiftly, avoiding constant traffic jams.
The Regional Secretary of Badung, Ida Bagus Surya Suamba, said that the project is part of a coastal area development plan from Kuta to Cemagi and is included in the district's medium-term program. Currently, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) is finalizing the feasibility study and environmental impact assessment (AMDAL).
The idea of sea transport belongs to Bali's Vice Governor Nyoman Giri Prasta — he proposed it during his tenure as the regent of Badung: “The sea route allows tourists to reach their hotels directly by boat, significantly easing road congestion,” he said.
There are still few details about the logistics. It is reported that a direct sea taxi is planned from the airport to the coast of Canggu, as well as a terminal at the airport from which one can travel to Nusa Penida and possibly to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.
In the meantime, the state-owned company PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry intends to conduct a test launch of the water taxi on the airport-Canggu route by the end of 2025. According to ASDP's Operational Director, Rio Teodora Nataliantho Lasse, the route will run between the airport and the village of Canggu in North Kuta, with the trial run planned for December.
Lasse clarified that the project has already been agreed upon with local authorities. ASDP is currently negotiating with boat owners and has completed a survey of the waters in the Canggu area. Bathymetric surveys have already been conducted, confirming the safety of the route.
It is anticipated that the journey from the airport to Canggu by water will take between 15 to 30 minutes. “We could compete with online taxis,” Lasse emphasized.
The CEO of PT ASDP, Heru Widodo, added that a meeting with Bali’s governor will soon take place to approve the final construction site. “We are being urged to accelerate the project. By the end of the year, we must complete all preparatory work,” he concluded.
