Gilimanuk–Mengwi Toll Road Gets Split into Three Sections

The Gilimanuk–Mengwi toll road, which has already been widely discussed, has once again made the news. This time, the authorities—apparently tired of searching for investors and acquiring land—have decided to change their approach. They’ve broken the 100-kilometer toll road into three sections and plan to work on each one separately.
Talks about this road have long brought smiles to the faces of Balinese locals and regular BaliForum readers. However, despite the somewhat anecdotal and even legendary nature of this much-delayed road, hopes remain that it will eventually be completed.
The Gilimanuk–Mengwi toll road project first appeared in the media and government reports back in September 2022. However, within less than a year, construction stalled. The halt was due to issues with financing and the tendering process.
Authorities have occasionally brought the project back into discussion, and now there is fresh information stating that construction will continue. It is planned to be completed by 2028.
It has now been decided that the construction of the Gilimanuk–Mengwi road will be divided into three sections:
• Section 1: Gilimanuk–Pekutatan, 53.6 kilometers
• Section 2: Pekutatan–Soka, 24.3 kilometers
• Section 3: Soka–Mengwi, 18.9 kilometers
The purpose of this division is to simplify the tendering process and break down the total cost. This will help attract more investors, who were previously deterred by the high price. As before, the total projected cost remains at 25.4 trillion rupiah.
