Badung Regency has officially launched construction of new roads in South Kuta and North Kuta. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 27 in Pecatu. The current phase of the project is valued at more than IDR 2.9 trillion.
The largest component is the first section of the South Ring Road, stretching 10.89 kilometres. It includes new roads connecting Jimbaran, Balangan, Labuan Sait, Pecatu, and Melasti, as well as the expansion of the Siligita intersection. The new route is expected to provide an alternative connection between Jimbaran and Uluwatu, easing traffic around Udayana University, GWK Cultural Park, and Pecatu.
The main road will be 24 metres wide, with 3-metre sidewalks on both sides. The first phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
A flyover will also be built at the Udayana intersection in Jimbaran, near McDonald’s. Although separate, the project is closely linked to the South Ring Road. Authorities had originally planned an underpass but abandoned the idea because of flood risks, the nearby river, higher costs, and construction challenges.
Land acquisition has already been completed, while the central government will finance the flyover. Construction is expected to begin in 2026. The flyover will connect roads from the Udayana campus and the Wanagiri intersection, allowing traffic from Uluwatu to reach the Ngurah Rai Bypass and the Bali Mandara Toll Road more efficiently.
At the same time, construction has begun in North Kuta. New roads through Berawa, Umalas, Semer, and Kedampang will be connected to West Teuku Umar Road. This section will be approximately 4.8 kilometres long and 10 metres wide. It is intended to reduce congestion at the Semer intersection and other busy roads in Kerobokan. The new link is expected to open in December 2026.
In the long term, the South Ring Road is planned to extend to nearly 30 kilometres. The remaining sections will be built in stages between 2027 and 2029.
