Teeth Cleaning and Other Dental Services Covered by BPJS

Everyone knows that dental health is very important. One of the dental care procedures is regular cleaning to remove tartar, or scaling. If you neglect this procedure, accumulated tartar can damage your teeth and gums, potentially causing inflammation.

The good news is that you can get free teeth scaling treatment by using BPJS Kesehatan (the Indonesian government health insurance system).
Conditions for Teeth Scaling Using BPJS Kesehatan
It should be noted that teeth scaling is free with BPJS Kesehatan only if there is a medical indication, not for aesthetic reasons.
According to BPJS Kesehatan, teeth scaling for acute gingivitis (gum inflammation) is covered by BPJS insurance once every two years.
Examinations can be conducted in registered FKTPs (primary care facilities, such as Puskesmas clinics) based on medical indications and cannot be performed at will.
Teeth Scaling Procedure Using BPJS Kesehatan
  1. The BPJS Kesehatan participant visits a primary care facility, specifically a Puskesmas (public health center) or a clinic and presents the active BPJS Kesehatan card.
  2. A dentist will conduct an examination. If there are medical indications for tartar removal, scaling can be performed for free right at the clinic.
  3. If there are more serious medical indications requiring a referral to a higher-level institution, the BPJS Kesehatan participant will be given a referral to a hospital to see a specialist.
