Bali Will Check Foreigners’ Savings on Arrival

The Bali authorities are preparing a regional law on "quality tourism" and want to check the financial stability of foreign travelers.

It's not about a fixed amount in the account. They will look at the bank statement for the last three months and compare the funds with how long the person plans to stay in Bali and what activities they intend to pursue.
The project was shared by the governor of Bali, Wayan Koster. According to him, the draft of the regional law is almost ready and will soon be submitted to the provincial parliament. The head of Bali believes that the discussion there will not drag on and the provision can be implemented as early as 2026.
Koster explicitly names solvency as one of the criteria for "quality tourism". In his opinion, a foreigner should not "get stuck" in Bali without money and, as a result, break rules or commit crimes. He states that having a sufficient budget also means more revenue for the local economy.
In 2025, 7.05 million foreign tourists arrived in Bali by air and about 71,000 by sea. Koster recalled that in 2022 the industry actively pushed for the easiest possible access for foreigners, after which the flow "accelerated" and became harder to filter.
At the same time, the province is trying to increase the collection of the tourist levy: in 2025, the revenue amounted to 369 billion rupiahs, but this is only about 34.8% of the number of foreign guests, with a budget target of 500 billion rupiahs. The levy is currently 150,000 rupiahs per visit.
