Major Road Repairs Start Near Toyapakeh Port

On Nusa Penida, work has started on the Sampalan–Toyapakeh road. It is one of the island’s main routes, used by local residents, tourists, and freight vehicles.

The roughly 8-kilometre section links Sampalan with the Toyapakeh port area. It is used to reach tourist spots, hotels, ports, and villages on the western side of the island.
The contract is worth about IDR 50.68 billion. The work is expected to take 240 calendar days. After completion, the contractor will have a further 360 days to maintain the road.
The project is part of a wider road repair programme in Klungkung for 2026. In total, 23 sections are on the list, with around 80% of them on Nusa Penida. The overall roadworks budget is about IDR 137 billion.
Project funding also comes, among other sources, from a loan from the Bali Development Bank. The first tranche will go to several projects in Klungkung’s island area: the Sampalan–Toyapakeh road, the ring road on Ceningan, and a new medical instrument sterilisation unit at Gema Santi Hospital on Nusa Penida.
Previously, road projects on Nusa Penida were delayed due to rising prices for asphalt and other materials. Several work packages had to be recalculated and put out to tender again. These included the roads to Kelingking Beach and Broken Beach, the Toyapakeh–Sebunibus section, and the road around Ceningan.
