Access to two of Nusa Penida’s most visited attractions — Kelingking Beach and Crystal Bay — is being upgraded in the middle of the peak season. Roadworks are underway along a 0.9-kilometre section between Toyapakeh and Sebunibus, although the road remains open to traffic.

The project includes laying hot-mix asphalt, constructing drainage channels and concreting the road shoulders. The contract is worth IDR 2.989 billion, with PT Maha Karya Wiguna carrying out the work.
Vehicles are still being allowed through, with traffic controllers stationed at the site. Drivers are being asked to slow down, follow road signs and comply with instructions from workers. Local authorities have also asked residents and tourists for patience while heavy equipment is operating on the roadway. No completion date has been announced.
Toyapakeh is one of the ports where fast boats from Bali arrive, and the road from the harbour leads towards the western part of the island, home to both Crystal Bay and the Kelingking viewpoint. The roadworks therefore affect both visitors on organised day trips and those exploring the island independently by scooter.

The road to Kelingking is not the only construction project currently underway on Nusa Penida. Since early May, the local government has been reconstructing the 8.8-kilometre Sampalan–Toyapakeh road, under a contract worth more than IDR 50 billion.
Several other sections are scheduled for improvements this year, including the Bunga Mekar–Pura Kalibun road and the access road to Broken Beach. Routine maintenance is also underway along the Sakti–Penida section.
