In Tabanan alone, 632 accidents occurred in the first half of the year — 26% more than during the same period a year earlier. The number of fatalities rose from 33 to 42.
During Operation “Keselamatan Agun”, which ran from 2 to 15 February, 290 road accidents occurred across the island. This was 53% more than during the same operation in 2025, when police recorded 189 accidents.
In mid-July, Bali Governor Wayan Koster instructed Jasa Raharja to expand its road accident prevention programmes and hold more road safety sessions together with the police and other government agencies.
Previously, Badung Regency Police discussed stricter measures with the immigration authorities against foreign nationals who violate traffic rules. In some cases, this could result in deportation.
Always remember to wear a helmet when riding a motorbike, and obtain an international driving permit for the appropriate vehicle category in advance. If you are already in Bali, you can obtain a local driving licence with assistance from Legal Indonesia.
