Badung Police are discussing tougher measures with the immigration authorities for foreigners who break traffic rules. In some cases, this could lead to deportation.

The police have already invited immigration representatives to discuss joint action. A foreigner stopped for riding without a helmet or for another offence may be handed over to the immigration authorities, but only if there are grounds for a more serious penalty.
The immigration service will decide on deportation after reviewing the circumstances. For example, this may apply if the rider refuses to obey the police, gets into a conflict with officers, or if their behaviour is considered a threat to public order.
The standard penalty for not wearing an Indonesian SNI-standard helmet is a fine of up to 250,000 rupiah or up to one month in detention.
Badung Police have also asked motorcycle taxi drivers not to carry passengers who are not wearing helmets.
If you want to ride around Bali without unnecessary problems, it is better to arrange an Indonesian driving licence in advance. Legal Indonesia can help with this. And do not forget to wear a helmet — it is a matter of your safety.
