The Bali authorities have confirmed plans to build a new art market in the village of Bongkasa Pertiwi, located near Ubud. This project aims to be an alternative to the famous market in Ubud and attract tourists to less visited parts of the island. The new market will feature products by local artisans: silver jewelry, honey, coconut oil, and other Balinese crafts.

The village of Bongkasa is already known to tourists for Ayung River rafting and quad biking. Now there will be another attraction to add to these activities.
A budget of 4.9 billion Indonesian rupiahs has been allocated for the project. The main building is expected to be completed by December 2025, with vendors and final touches planned for early 2026.
The head of the village, Nyoman Buda, expressed hope that the new market will support local entrepreneurs and increase the area's appeal. Visiting the art market is planned to be included in tourist packages—such as in combination with rafting.
This project is especially relevant in light of the recent fire that occurred on August 17, 2024, at the central market in Ubud (Ubud Art Market). The fire, caused by a short circuit, destroyed more than 400 stalls and impacted about 1,000 vendors. Temporary stalls were provided by BPD Bali Bank, but the reconstruction of the market requires significant funds and time. Local authorities continue to develop a reconstruction plan, but the budget for this is yet to be allocated.
The new market in Bongkasa may be an important step in supporting local artisans and developing tourism in the region.
