The authorities of Ubud will allocate funds for the restoration and reconstruction of the traditional Art Market, most of which was destroyed by a fire in August 2024.

The flames raged for more than 10 hours, making it one of the most devastating fires Ubud has seen in recent decades. The fire affected over 1,000 vendors and 400 stalls located on the underground and first floors of the building. Despite the damage, a large part of the market has continued to operate, though the eastern side remains closed to visitors.
The head of the Gianyar Department of Industry and Trade, Luh Gede Eka Suari, stated that the market’s renovation will be funded by the local budget rather than the central government. Since the market building is quite large, construction work should not interfere with tourists.
Located in the heart of Ubud’s tourist village, the market is one of the area’s main attractions. Inside, visitors can find everything from traditional Balinese sarongs to wooden decorations, jewelry, and affordable souvenirs.
While most vendors are based here, Ubud also has other smaller, lesser-known markets where tourists can buy Balinese-style home decor, clothing, batik products, trinkets, and traditional treats as souvenirs.
Due to the fire, many vendors were forced to relocate, leading to an increase in unofficial stalls around Ubud. One particularly popular spot is located across from the turn onto Jalan Tirta Tawar from Jalan Raya Ubud.
Shopping in Ubud pairs well with cultural activities. Right across from the Art Market is the magnificent Ubud Royal Palace, Puri Saren Agung.
Entry is free, and the best way to experience the grandeur of Ubud’s Royal Palace is to attend one of the nightly cultural performances. All shows start at 7:30 PM and cost 100,000 IDR per person.
