Badung authorities are preparing a major redevelopment of Kuta. The area is set to become more pedestrian-friendly: pavements will be widened, some of the chaotic on-street parking removed, utility cables moved underground, and electric public transport introduced.

Work is expected to begin in 2026. In the first phase, pavements in Kuta are planned to be widened to around 4 metres. Green areas will be added along them, and some wires and cables will be moved underground.
The authorities also want to tackle parking. At the moment, cars and motorbikes often take up the verges and part of the roadway, making streets even narrower. Badung plans to create centralised parking areas and then ban parking on Kuta’s main streets.
To make it easier for people to get around without private transport, the authorities promise to introduce electric public transport. It may be given a dedicated lane or have its route marked with coloured road markings.
There is also a separate plan for the coastline. The central government is currently reinforcing the shore in the stretch from Tuban to Kuta to protect the beach from erosion. After that, the work is planned to continue further north, as far as Canggu.
A promenade about 8 metres wide will be created along the shore. Part of the space is planned for pedestrians and runners, and part for cyclists.
