A high-speed marine route between Banyuwangi and Bali is planned to launch in June 2025. It will be serviced by a motor catamaran that will depart from Marina Boom Port in Banyuwangi on Java and head to Serangan Port in southern Denpasar. The ticket price will be 200,000 rupiahs per person.

If you have ever traveled from Bali to Java by land, you know it's usually quite uncomfortable. You need to reach Mengwi, far from all tourist spots, where you board a bus that then takes you for hours on the winding Bali roads to the island's western port, Gilimanuk. Naturally, aside from the island's fabulous scenery, you'll also encounter the epic traffic jams on the narrow, congested road leading to the port. The launch of the marine route will indeed save a lot of time and be much more convenient for passengers.
The high-speed ferry to be used is about 40 meters long and 6 meters wide, with a capacity of 350 to 400 passengers. With this vessel, the journey time between Banyuwangi and Denpasar will be reduced to 2.5 hours.
The route is considered strategic as it connects two key tourist destinations in Indonesia — Banyuwangi and Denpasar. The technical phases have already been completed, including detailed studies of the marine path between the cities. Regarding the legal side, most of the necessary documents are also prepared. The private company that will operate the high-speed ferry has already started preliminary negotiations. Additionally, the East Java government plans to renovate the passenger terminal at Marina Boom Port. The renovation will be carried out in a local historical architectural style.
