Catamaran Route Between Banyuwangi and Bali to Launch in June

A new motor catamaran route between Banyuwangi and Bali is set to begin operations in June. The vessels will accommodate up to 300 passengers, and the travel time will be significantly shorter compared to cars and buses — the journey will take just 2.5 hours. Moreover, Banyuwangi has a train station, allowing travelers to avoid bus travel entirely.
If flying isn’t an option for you, this could become the most comfortable way to travel to Java. Naturally, these vessels won’t be affected by traffic, with weather being the only potential disruption.
The catamaran will operate between Marina Boom Port (Banyuwangi) and Serangan Port (Denpasar, Bali), where a new marina is currently under construction.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani personally inspected the readiness of the Marina Boom dock ahead of the interprovincial catamaran’s launch.
Khofifah requested that the port’s design reflect the local identity. She specifically asked for the catamaran’s waiting area to be decorated in Banyuwangi’s traditional style.
“This gives Banyuwangi a chance to become a logistics and transport hub for East Java. It’s also a win for tourism — it will be easier for tourists to get to Banyuwangi, especially by catamaran, since the travel time will be reduced,” the governor noted.
“The next step is to expand routes to connect Banyuwangi with Sulawesi and Kalimantan. This will ease the movement of goods, services, and people,” she concluded.
