Bali Police Seize Bikes for No License, No Helmet & Loud Exhausts

From May 1st to 3rd, the Badung Police conducted a major operation in the tourist areas of Uluwatu, Canggu, Legian, and Seminyak. This operation resulted in 81 infractions, with 56 motorbikes and 14 registration certificates (STNK) seized. The violations included street racing, riding without valid licenses, helmets, and insurance, as well as using motorcycles with loud or illegally modified exhaust systems.

Among the 81 offenders, 30 were foreigners and 51 were locals. Badung Police Chief Arif Batubara noted that most foreign riders lacked comprehensive documentation and operated motorcycles with non-standard 'brong' exhausts. Some also rode without helmets.
Many foreigners justified the absence of helmets by the short distance of their trips, claiming it's a common practice in Canggu.
Police focused efforts on areas with high violation rates in Pererenan and Anggungan. These locations are often used for night racing, especially on quiet roads with minimal supervision.
Batubara emphasized, "Bali is not a place for racing. We are ensuring safety and maintaining the image of tourist areas. Such checks will be regular."
Police also plan to hold motorcycle rental owners accountable for providing vehicles without necessary documents and for not instructing clients on traffic regulations.
Island police periodically conduct such raids, though they are usually publicized afterward. It's advisable to carry valid licenses and wear helmets at all times, especially for your safety.
