We answer directly and clearly – yes, you do!
📌 Here are important things you need to know:
Riding a bike is a responsibility. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is required to drive a bike in Bali.
🔹 What are the penalties?
The fine for riding without a license in Bali is up to 1,000,000 IDR or even up to 4 months in prison. Ending up in prison is unlikely, but getting fined is very possible.
🔹 Insurance and Accidents
Without an international license, insurance companies refuse compensation for health and vehicle damage in an accident. You’ll have to pay for treatment and repairs entirely out of pocket.
✅ Good news:
When renting our bike and purchasing damage insurance, damage to the rented bike is covered even without a license. However, you’ll have to pay for third-party damage yourself.
📑 What documents are needed to ride a bike in Bali:
A national driving license. Category M is not suitable as the scooters here are more powerful.
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a mandatory addition to your national license.
