Bali Airports Expect Holiday Travel Spike

Denpasar authorities have warned of an increase in passenger numbers ahead of Lebaran 2026. Lebaran is the Indonesian name for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. During this period, many Indonesians travel to their hometowns and villages to be with their families. These trips are known as mudik.

According to the city transport agency’s forecast, during the holiday travel season there will be around 10% more passengers and vehicles than the year before. For this reason, anyone planning to leave Bali or travel around the island on those days is advised not to leave their journey until the last minute.
Enhanced operations in Denpasar will be in place from 13 to 29 March 2026. During this time, joint monitoring posts will be set up at Ubung Terminal, the Uma Anyar area, and Serangan Port.
The authorities also highlight the dates leading up to Nyepi. On 18 March, parades featuring ogoh-ogoh—large ritual figures carried through the streets on the eve of the Day of Silence—will take place across Bali. That evening, many roads may be closed and traffic jams are likely, so it’s best to plan trips in advance.
According to the transport agency’s estimates, 134,246 passengers will depart Denpasar by land for holiday travel. A further 103,782 people will arrive in the city.
No changes to the transport plan are expected. The authorities say they will monitor traffic on key routes and prepare transport in advance to avoid shortages of seats and vehicles.
