Sri Lanka is a right-hand reef break in the northern part of Nusa Dua, in front of the Club Med Resort, about 500 m north of Bali Soul. It's not one of the area's top spots — advanced surfers find it dull. But on the right swell Sri Lanka delivers long, comfortable waves, and when everything lines up, barrels. It picks up less swell on average than the neighbouring spots — the swell has to wrap around the Bukit Peninsula to reach the reef.
The wave & conditions
The right is fast, with a long wall that runs into a steep end section. When the wave is on, you have to drop in behind the peak and get straight into the barrel — hesitate on the take-off and you end up on the shallow reef. On a small swell it's a mellow wave that suits learning, and surf schools often come here. It's a shortboard spot — a longboard is awkward here. On a big swell the wave turns hard and barrelling — on powerful swells there are below-sea-level barrels here.
Conditions & tips
You paddle out through the boat channel — an easy paddle. The lineup is usually quiet. It picks up less swell on average — it suits anyone who finds Geger or Pandawa too much. Sri Lanka handles a southerly wind better than the other Nusa Dua spots. But on a powerful swell the sets come in at up to 3–4 m. The main hazard is the shallow, sharp reef, especially at low tide.
Hazards: shallow, sharp reef, current toward the ocean (strengthens on a powerful swell)
Max swell: any (but picks up less swell than the neighbouring spots)
