Sindhu Right (Tanjung Sari Right, Belan Belan — "shards of glass") is a right-hand reef break by Pantai Sindhu in Sanur. Easier than Hyatt Reef, and it breaks much closer to shore — you can watch it from the boardwalk. A solid spot for both longboards and shortboards. The wave runs along a curved reef into a deep channel, and in ideal conditions the sections link up into a long ride of up to 200 metres — it's been compared to Impossibles. Like its neighbour Sindhu Left, it changes character dramatically with the tide.
The wave & conditions
At low–mid tide on a big swell it's a serious wave: it stands up on top of the reef and breaks into a clean barrel over razor-sharp coral. Fast, shallow, powerful — for experienced surfers. At high tide the wave slows down and softens: several sections for turns, with the last section by the channel the most fun. The higher the tide, the fewer barrel sections and the more walls. Swell: S, SW. Offshore: NW. The wet season is the main season. The difference between a fun session and a trip to the clinic is one hour of tide movement.
Conditions & tips
Park at Pantai Sindhu; the paddle across the channel is ~300–400 metres — quick and easy, one of the spot's main advantages. There's board rental on the beach — mostly tourists hiring. The local name Belan Belan ("shards of glass") tells you everything about the bottom: the coral is sharp and shallow, so surf it closer to full tide. At low tide it's a high-risk spot. When it really switches on, the lineup gets serious: shallow and intense, which is why it never gets crowded. Few people out, surfed with good etiquette. At high tide on a small swell the vibe is friendly — local kids, intermediate surfers, sunset sessions. The Sanur boardwalk, with its cafés and restaurants, is a great place to watch the surf.
