It happened on 12 June at around 16:55. The tourist was travelling with a friend from Melasti Beach towards Seminyak and was holding her phone while checking the map. At that moment, a man on a black Yamaha NMax pulled up on the right, snatched the device and rode off. The motorbike had a Bali number plate beginning with DK.
The theft was recorded by a car dashcam. The video quickly spread on social media. Police said a report had been filed and that Kuta police were carrying out checks: they are questioning the victim and witnesses, as well as reviewing CCTV footage from cameras near the scene. According to the victim, the phone — a dark blue iPhone 17 Pro Max — was worth around 17 million rupiah.
When riding a motorbike, it is better not to hold your phone openly in your hand, especially near the edge of the road, at traffic lights or in heavy traffic. You can set the route in advance, turn on voice directions, secure the phone in a holder, or ask the passenger to check the map in a way that keeps the device away from the traffic side.
To reduce the risk of theft, avoid carrying a bag on the shoulder or side facing the road. Keep your passport, bank cards, and large amounts of cash securely stored and only carry them when absolutely necessary.
If something is stolen, you should go to the nearest police station straight away. If possible, keep the video, location, time of the incident, a description of the motorbike and any other details that could help find camera footage.
