Denpasar police are investigating a report from an Indian tourist who said that 23.31 million rupiah had been stolen from her hotel room in Kuta.

It happened near a hotel on Sunset Road. The 45-year-old tourist had gone out to eat with her child. On the street, a man, a woman and two children approached them. The man started talking to the tourist about her country, then offered her a pleasant-smelling substance to smell.
After that, according to the woman, she and her child began to feel unwell and dizzy. The man put the tourist in a car, while asking the child to show him the hotel room, allegedly to get some money. At around 18:00, they returned to the hotel, but the woman was still feeling unwell. In the room, she discovered that the money had disappeared from the drawer.
The tourist reported that 100 US dollars, 9 million Vietnamese dong, 60,000 Indian rupees and 6 million Indonesian rupiah were missing. Police inspected the scene, questioned witnesses and are checking CCTV footage from around the hotel. No suspects have been named yet.
Police are urging tourists to be more careful with strangers who offer them something to smell or taste, offer them a lift, or try to get into their room under any pretext. It is better not to keep large amounts of cash in drawers or bags, but to store it in a safe.
