Bali's immigration service expelled a 44-year-old US citizen who used a tourist visa to organize a paid retreat in Seminyak. The woman was detained on September 16 at Ngurah Rai Airport when she was about to fly to Jakarta. She was deported on September 18.

According to the authorities, the American arrived in Bali on September 4 with a visa on arrival (VoA) valid until October 4. Instead of traveling as a tourist, she held an Intimacy Mastery Retreat from September 4 to 8 in a rented villa in Seminyak. The program was paid, with participants from various countries. The schedule included activities related to emotional intimacy, relationships, and sexual practices.
The retreat became known after a complaint from local residents. Immigration police checked her social networks and advertisements, then conducted surveillance of the villa. They discovered items suggesting intimate activities were being conducted.
"Every foreigner in Indonesia is obliged to comply with immigration rules and respect local laws. We will act decisively against those who abuse their stay permits," said the head of the Ngurah Rai immigration office.
Following the investigation, the woman was found to be in violation of Article 75 (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on immigration, which provides for deportation for commercial activities without permission. She is also banned from entering Indonesia.
