Gianyar is often associated with Ubud, but the tourist route around the regency has long since stopped being limited to it. In a single day you can visit the sacred springs, walk among monkeys, go on a safari, or pick one of the waterfalls. Here are the spots tourists choose most often, judging by the latest figures.
The most popular site over the first eight months of this year was Tirta Empul. It recorded 553,253 visits. This is a Hindu temple complex with a sacred spring. Tourists come there not only to see traditional Balinese architecture, but also to take part in the traditional melukat purification ritual.
Second place went to the Monkey Forest in Ubud, which drew 408,264 visits. This nature reserve with a temple complex covers around 27 hectares and is home to roughly 340 long-tailed macaques.
Third place went to Bali Safari Marine Park. It has already logged 338,470 visits this year. It is a large animal park with more than 100 species. Among others, you can see elephants and lions there.
Fourth in the visitor rankings was Tegenungan waterfall, which accounted for 218,850 visits. It is one of the best-known waterfalls in Gianyar. The water drops between green cliffs, and at the bottom there is a natural pool where you can swim.
Another notable spot is Kanto Lampo waterfall. From January to August it recorded 171,933 visits, compared with roughly 120,000 over the same period last year. Unlike Tegenungan, the water there does not fall from a height in a single stream but runs down stepped rocks. It looks very photogenic.
Local authorities link the rise in visitors to Kanto Lampo to better on-site organization and promotion on social media. That said, the waterfall has been familiar to tourists for a long time: many travelers include it in their route along with other Gianyar attractions, especially if they are riding a rented scooter.
The Gianyar authorities expect these spots to keep growing in popularity and anticipate that the regency will record 5 million visits by the end of 2026.
