The Pickleball Championship, an international pickleball tournament, will return to Bali for the fifth time and is set to become the largest edition yet. The competition will take place from September 20–26 at Liga.Tennis Sports Club in Sanur.

The tournament will be part of the World Pickleball Championship (WPC) series. For spectators, it offers a chance to see a sport that is still new to many played at a high level. For Bali residents and anyone interested in an active lifestyle, it may also be the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at pickleball.
Bali is increasingly becoming a destination not only for tourism but also for major sporting events. The island has already hosted international tennis tournaments, the Climbing World Cup, surfing competitions, and numerous other sporting events.
Running clubs, padel, functional fitness, tennis centers, and various recreational sports communities continue to grow across the island. Now pickleball is rapidly joining that list as one of the fastest-growing racket sports in the world.
Pickleball is often described as a combination of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a smaller court using solid paddles and a perforated plastic ball. Compared to tennis, the court is more compact, rallies are shorter, and the sport is easier for beginners to learn.
This accessibility is one of the key reasons behind its popularity. It requires less physical intensity than many other competitive sports while remaining fast-paced, social, and highly engaging. For Bali, with its large expat population, international visitors, and active sports communities, the format is a natural fit.
Indonesia is also beginning to invest in the development of pickleball. Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo has noted the sport’s strong potential in the country, pointing to Indonesians’ long-standing passion for racket sports and the similarity of pickleball court dimensions to badminton courts — a sport that enjoys enormous popularity nationwide.
