One of the most famous games in the world, Monopoly, now has a Balinese edition. In 2025, for the 90th anniversary of the legendary board game, a special edition called Monopoly: Bali Edition was released. The familiar game board features famous landmarks, popular hotels, and cultural symbols of the island.
Monopoly has long become a global phenomenon, played by over a billion people in 114 countries. Bali is now a full-fledged member of the global Monopoly family.
The presentation of Monopoly: Bali Edition was held at the Maya Ubud Resort & Spa, which also occupies a space on the game board. The official launch was celebrated in traditional style with a Kecak dance, performances by representatives of the Balinese and Indonesian authorities, and participation from Winning Moves, the company producing the game under Hasbro's license. The event's guest of honor was none other than Mr. Monopoly, the legendary game mascot.
"We are proud to be part of this project and the official venue for its launch. It's an opportunity to showcase Bali's charm in an interactive and timeless form," said Maya Ubud's COO, Jesus Gisbert Carbonell.
On the new edition's game board, you can find the Jatiluwih rice terraces, the Uluwatu Temple, resorts, and iconic cultural spots of Bali. The rules remain classic — players continue to buy, sell, and trade landmarks as if they were real estate.
In honor of the new version's release, Maya Ubud Resort offers its guests a special treat called "Afternoon Tea Indulgence: Board Game Edition." Until May 24, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, visitors can enjoy an exquisite brunch and play Balinese Monopoly. The cost is from 200,000 rupiah per person. Reservations are made directly through the hotel.
