Benoa Harbor Turns Global Maritime Hub

A Marine Tourism Center is set to launch in Bali soon, enhancing travel, leisure, and business opportunities for both Indonesians and foreigners. Benoa Harbor in the south of the island is transforming into a modern international maritime hub, focusing on premium cruising and yachting tourism.

Marine tourism in Bali is rapidly gaining popularity: in 2024, the island hosted 59 cruise ships and 103,000 foreign tourists. In the first half of 2025 alone, 38 liners and over 50,000 passengers arrived.
Indonesia's Minister of Tourism Vidyanti Putri Wardhana visited Bali on a working trip to assess the progress of the Benoa Harbor reconstruction. This is the site of the Bali Marine Tourism Hub (BMTH) — a project that could reshape the island's tourism landscape.
BMTH will be Indonesia's first premium port. Key features include a new cruise terminal consisting of three buildings with a 1,100-meter berth, capable of simultaneously accommodating three cruise ships and up to 9,000 passengers.
Also planned is a luxury yacht port covering 57,400 m² (a 3.3-hectare site), designed for 275 yachts, including 50 superyachts up to 90 meters long. The complex infrastructure includes yacht clubs, restaurants, green areas, and spaces for business events (MICE).
“The development of the Bali Marine Tourism Hub is of strategic importance,” stated Minister Wardhana. She noted that the project aims to make Bali a leading cruise tourism destination within the next decade.
According to Drajat Sulistyo, strategic director of the state company Pelindo, the project goes far beyond the port: “This is an integrated center with tourism, shipping, and logistical infrastructure. Our goal is to create a world-class maritime hub.”
Meanwhile, the authorities of Denpasar are developing a sustainable marine tourism initiative. The head of the city's tourism department, Ni Luh Putu Riasthiti, emphasizes: “Great potential requires great responsibility — we must protect the marine environment and coastal ecosystems.”
The Tanjung Benoa area has already established itself as one of Bali's best family destinations, offering a wide range of water activities — from banana boating and parasailing to snorkeling. Its proximity to the international airport makes it especially convenient for tourists.
Bali Benoa Marina is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2025, with all facilities expected to launch by 2027. The project promises to drive regional and national growth, based on sustainable premium tourism.
