Indonesian construction company Persero has announced the completion of the Benoa Port modernization. As part of the project, Persero was responsible for dredging, expanding the navigation channel, and developing essential infrastructure to support Balis growing marine tourism hub. Thanks to these upgrades, the port can now accommodate large cruise ships, which is expected to significantly boost both international and domestic tourism.
Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, predicts that the number of foreign visitors will increase by 1.5 times, while domestic tourism will double. He emphasized that the port will unlock new opportunities for Bali as a global tourism center.
Denpasar Mayor Jaya Negara expressed hope that the new port will benefit both local residents and the entire island. He confirmed that construction is 100% complete and that the project incorporates the latest technological advancements.
Persero spokesperson Joko Rahardjo highlighted that Benoa Port is more than just an infrastructure project. It was designed to enhance logistics, support tourism, and strengthen the local economy.
The construction utilized innovative technologies to minimize environmental impact. Notably, the Deck On Pile method helped preserve the surrounding mangrove forests, while the use of metal structures in architectural elements reinforced Balis cultural identity. Additionally, environmental rehabilitation efforts were undertaken, including the planting of new mangrove trees and the restoration of coral reefs. Persero made every effort to ensure that the project and its construction had minimal impact on Balis natural ecosystem.
With the completion of the Benoa Port modernization, the port is expected to become a key maritime hub, attracting more tourists and revenue to Bali. The improved infrastructure will also boost the development of promising tourist areas such as Nusa Dua and Sanur, expanding Balis tourism landscape.
This shift aims to ease the overcrowding in popular destinations like Canggu, Kuta, and Seminyak, gradually redistributing tourism across the island while maintaining sustainable growth.
