An Immigration Lounge has opened at Discovery Mall in Kuta — the first immigration centre in Bali located inside a shopping complex.
Plans for such a centre were announced back in June. The lounge now takes applications for Indonesian passports — up to 40 a day — and for residence permit extensions, with more than 150 applications already submitted here. KITAS, KITAP and Golden Visa are processed here as well. The centre is open on weekdays from 10:00 to 17:00 local time.
Immigration has previously brought some of its services to busy locations: a temporary counter on the third floor of Plaza Renon also accepts passport applications and stay extensions. But Discovery Mall has become the first shopping mall in Bali with a fully fledged immigration centre rather than a temporary desk.
The immigration offices in Tabanan and Klungkung opened back in April — both at a lower rank, without the status of a border control point. Bali's authorities are now looking at a site in the Mangrove Forest area near Ngurah Rai Airport, where they plan to expand the main immigration office and give it broader powers.
The reason: over 70% of the island's foreign tourists spend their time in the tourist areas of the south (Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua), and 74% of the tourist tax collected from hotels and restaurants comes from there as well.
And if you would rather deal with less paperwork, you can go to the agency Legal Indonesia to arrange or extend a visa — they will prepare the documents, and all you need to do is come to the office to submit your biometrics.
