Not long ago, elections took place in Bali, determining who will shape the island’s future for the next five years. A new governor, vice governor, and regents have taken office, and now the public is expecting them to deliver on their campaign promises. Among the top priorities are waste management, traffic congestion, and tourism.

While Bali’s governor, Wayan Koster, has proposed banning foreigners from riding motorbikes, the new regent of Badung, I Wayan Adi Arnawa S.H., has pledged to maintain cleanliness on the island’s most famous tourist beaches. He made this announcement while participating in a community cleanup at Kedonganan Beach—a well-known spot due to its proximity to the popular fish market. This beach is one of the first to suffer from waste accumulation during the rainy season.
Arnawa emphasized that his administration is responsible for Bali’s most popular beaches, including Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Jimbaran, and the entire Bukit Peninsula. He promised to make every effort to keep these coastal areas clean.
As part of this initiative, pedestrian pathways are already being built along the beaches, and seaside cafes are being renovated to make them more visually appealing and comfortable. These improvements are aimed at enhancing the beach experience for tourists.
“I will focus on modernizing beaches, removing unauthorized street vendors so they no longer roam the area, and building pedestrian crossings that both locals and tourists can use. I don’t want Badung to look neglected because of trash. The government will allocate a special budget to address this issue, but public awareness and involvement remain the key to success.” – Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa
Arnawa believes that keeping the beaches clean is not just the government’s responsibility—local businesses and the community must also play an active role.
Although the rainy season is coming to an end, plastic waste continues to accumulate on beaches like Jimbaran and Kedonganan. Beach cleanup crews work daily, starting early in the morning, ensuring that by 10 AM, the shores are spotless once again.
