Nyang Nyang is a surf spot on the very southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula. It's considered one of the most beautiful places to surf in Bali. The spot faces due south, and the power of the Indian Ocean reaches it unobstructed — Nyang Nyang works as a swell magnet, and there can be waves here even when the other spots are flat.
The wave & conditions
The main peak is a right, to the right of the beach at the entrance to the channel. A short punchy right, breaking over coral. It works best at high tide on a small swell — the wave comes out of deep water, gives a wall for turns, and sometimes a barrel on the take-off. On big swells and a low tide the spot turns into a closeout. On a big swell, north of the beach, another right peak appears — it's usually a lot bigger than it looks from above, and the peak shifts around.
Conditions & tips
You can get down to the spot by the road. There's parking up top. It's usually not crowded — most surfers prefer the more consistent Uluwatu. Strong currents, and unexpected big sets straight out of the open ocean. There are basically no warungs down below — don't bring valuables with you.
