The discussion was sparked by a temporary problem with water distribution in the Jalan Belimbing Sari area: Pecatu village head I Made Sumerta urged the relevant services to stabilise the supply as quickly as possible.
According to him, the water mains have already been extended to this area, but over the past week the water has been coming through intermittently. Supply is now available, but it remains uneven and is delivered on a rota. In the Jalan Suluban area the situation is better, but even there the system is still operating unreliably.
The current disruption is linked to technical problems after Nyepi. According to the water utility, a short circuit caused three pumps to fail, which affected water supply in several areas of South Kuta, including Pecatu. As a result, water temporarily had to be distributed on a schedule.
For Pecatu, this is a sensitive issue. Local families live in the Jalan Belimbing Sari area, and there are guesthouses and other small tourist businesses. When the supply is cut, residents and businesses have to buy water from private tanker trucks. Local authorities acknowledge this cannot be a permanent solution: volumes are limited, and Pecatu’s hilly terrain makes deliveries more difficult.
At the same time, the current situation is not an isolated incident, but a continuation of a long-standing problem in the south of Bukit. Back in 2024, Badung authorities officially acknowledged that the southern part of the regency does not have enough water: demand is far higher than the current system can handle. They promised to address the issue with new pumps, reservoirs and additional water mains.
In January 2026, the head of Badung demanded that water supply in southern Badung be stabilised by 20 February. But by the end of March it became clear that the problem had not been fully resolved.
